Wyoming Roadless Areas Survey
Water. Wildlife. Access. Fire Risk. Local Voice.
Wyoming has more than 3 million acres of inventoried roadless areas on National Forest System lands. A federal rulemaking is considering rescission of the 2001 Roadless Rule. This survey asks Wyoming voters what standards should guide the decision.
This survey is non-binding and education-focused. Individual answers remain confidential. Results will be published in aggregate so we can see where Wyoming voters stand on water, wildlife, access, wildfire risk, and local voice.
The survey presents both sides honestly—the case for returning more flexibility to local land managers, and the case for maintaining roadless protections for water, wildlife habitat, and backcountry hunting and fishing. Wyoming voters can handle both arguments and deserve to be heard before decisions are made.
Survey results create a public record that can be compared with future agency decisions, proposed legislation, and votes related to roadless areas and forest management.
What the survey covers
Water
Questions about watershed protection, water supply, and what water-impact information should be required before project decisions on roadless lands.
Wildlife
Questions about big-game habitat, backcountry hunting and fishing, and what wildlife standards should apply when road construction or timber work is proposed.
Access
Questions about recreational and emergency access, the difference between temporary and permanent roads, and who should decide when roads are necessary.
Fire Risk
Questions about wildfire management, forest health treatment, and whether road access improves or complicates fire response in Wyoming’s forests.
Local Voice
Questions about how Wyoming input should be gathered, reported, and compared with future agency decisions and legislative votes on roadless areas.
